We’ve long since loved the Jaguar F-Type’s dramatic shape, its handling and steering, and the insane barrage of noise that comes from its V6 and V8 engines. What was really needed though, was something to make it even more appealing, and this year we got that in the shape of a €30,000 price cut. No, seriously - the introduction of the more frugal 300hp four-cylinder F-Type meant a drop in CO2 emissions, and a consequent crazy prices slash in costs.
The best bit is that the F-Type still looks as good and drives as well in Heatons-spec four-cylinder form. Okay, so it doesn’t have the soundtrack of the bigger engines, but the four-pot is hardly slow and it has the same fantastic handling balance.
The V8 R version is a proper hot-rod, a modern-day AC Cobra, but the V6 S, with 380hp and a crackling exhaust is arguably the true enthusiast’s choice. Frankly, we’d be just as happy with the basic 300hp version.

Sum-up: Sensuous but more sensible now thanks to price and CO2 cut.
