If you are the sort of person who enjoys starting up conversations with random passers-by, then the Ford Mustang is the car for you. You don't even need to upgrade to one of the more lurid paint jobs (although yellow is fine, if you like that sort of thing) - the Mustang's hulking, muscular shape and iconic, cinematic status will do the job just fine.
People simply gravitate to this car, eager to find out more. Agorophobics need not apply. It’s not the most sophisticated of things, and a BMW 4 Series or Audi A5 has it murdered for quality and dynamics.
The Mustang murders them right back for not being half so cool, though, and it is fun to drive as long as you don’t ask too many awkward questions of the chassis. Interior is too cheap for the price you pay, but it’s not too bad for space.
You don’t really need the 5.0-litre V8, as the 2.3 EcoBoost turbo four is so good, but you’ll want the big engine, of course. Major updates due for 2018, including better active safety.
