Shelbourne have appointed former Dublin Gaelic footballer Tomás ‘Mossy’ Quinn as their new chief executive.
Quinn makes the short journey to Tolka Park from Parnell Park, where he was employed as the Dublin GAA commercial and marketing director since 2013.
“Quinn helped spearhead an era of remarkable commercial growth and the continued evolution of Dublin GAA off the pitch,” read a Shelbourne statement. “He also brings an understanding and experience of operating in an elite level sports environment, having represented Dublin in inter-county football for over a decade and a long and decorated club career with St Vincent’s.”
Quinn was part of Pat Gilroy’s panel that captured an All-Ireland title in 2011, ending a 16-year famine while the 43-year-old also helped St Vincent’s capture two national titles.
“I’m thrilled to join Shelbourne FC at such an exciting time in the club’s journey,” said Quinn. “I’m looking forward to working with the board, the staff and the fans to build on last year’s achievements and taking a leadership role in continuing to lay the foundations for many years of future success and stability.
“Shelbourne is a club with a proud history and strong community ethos and I’m enthused to deepen the connection between the club, its community, its partners and its growing fanbase. Coming in to the club at this time in its illustrious history is a privilege and it is an immense honour to lead this Dublin institution as CEO.”
The Drumcondra club’s co-owner Neil Doyle said, “We are delighted to welcome Tomás to Shelbourne – I know he will be central in capitalising on the club’s momentum over the coming years. His appointment will support our continued drive to elevate all aspects of the club’s performance and further strengthen our engagement with fans and the local community.
“Tomás understands what it means to be a football fan, a commercial leader and an elite sportsperson – a unique combination which equips him to lead the next chapter in the club’s development.”
Doyle, who along with his brother Cathal are believed to have invested €1 million into Shels last year, will oversee club operations until Quinn takes up his position in April.
The League of Ireland champions begin the defence of their Premier Division title against Derry City at Tolka on February 14th.
