Donald Trump jnr and former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort will testify next week before the Senate Judiciary Committee as part of Congress' ongoing probe into Russian interference in last year's presidential election.

Both men attended a controversial meeting in Trump Tower last June with a

Russian lawyer in the hope of gaining damaging information about former Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton. The meeting has become the latest flashpoint in the ongoing controversy over the Trump campaign team's alleged links with Russia.

The committee confirmed that both men have been requested to appear next Wednesday. It is understood that both will testify publicly. US president Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor Jared Kushner, who also attended the June meeting in Trump Tower, is due to be questioned in private by senators on Monday.

Mr Manafort resigned last August as Mr Trump's campaign manager following revelations of his business dealings with pro-Russian Ukrainians. He previously worked for Ukrainian president Viktor Yanukovych, the pro-Russian leader who pulled out of an EU-Ukraine association agreement in late 2014, sparking the current conflict in the country.
