Gardaí have released six people arrested last night after fighting broke out between fans at a game between Shamrock Rovers and Bohemians in Inchicore.

The men, all thought to have been Shamrock Rovers supporters, were charged with public order offences at Kilmainham Garda station overnight.

The eircom League security committee has announced plans to meet at 10 a.m tomorrow to discuss the disturbances and will release a statement thereafter .

Thirty extra gardai had to be drafted in to deal with disturbances between the two sets of fans during the game which was attended by 4,000.

Fighting continued on the streets outside the ground after the game and pubs near the ground were forced to close. There were no reports of serious injuries.

Bohemians won the game 2-1 with goals from Robbie Doyle and a rejuvenated Glen Crowe.

A Dublin derby game on Friday betwen St Patrick's Athletic and Shamrock Rovers has now been brought forward by 45 minutes in an effort to curb any threat of further violence.
