After a midweek stumble, the summer weather appears to be back on track with a fair amount of sunshine and heat expected over Ireland until at least Tuesday.

According to Met Éireann, Saturday will be dry and sunny with light north-easterly breezes wafting over the county. There might be some heavy showers over more eastern counties, although they are likely to be scattered.

Temperatures will be slightly better than recently days and will reach between 17 and 20 degrees.

It will be dry and clear overnight and Sunday is likely to be dry and sunny although, again, there will be further scattered showers, mainly across the eastern half of the country.

It will be warmer again with temperatures reaching as high as 22 degrees.

Given the likelihood of some showers, people travelling to the Bray Air Display over the weekend are advised to pack a rain coat. The two-day aviation spectacle starts at 3.30pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday, with “on the ground” activities scheduled from noon each day.

High pressure will gradually decline during Tuesday with a more unsettled pattern following for the remainder of next week and temperatures falling back then too.

Monday will be marked by warm spells of summer sunshine with temperatures of climbing to 23 degrees in the east, with averages across the county being slightly less than that.

Tuesday will be another warm day generally with sunny spells, brightest across the midlands, east and southeast.

That will be the end of it for a period, however. As Tuesday progresses, it will become cloudier across Atlantic coastal counties with some rain and drizzle developing in the west.

Wednesday will start wet, with rain persisting throughout the day leading to spot flooding, Met Éireann said.

Some evening sunshine may break through across the west and northwest in the late evening and temperatures are set to be between 17 and to 20 degrees.
