Bank of Ireland apologises to customers for debit card problem

Bank says it’s investigating cause of problems which meant up to 15% of transactions failed

Bank of Ireland has confirmed its visa debit cards are now working normally after customers experienced problems earlier today.

About one in seven customers of the bank were complaining of visa debit cards declining at ATMs and during in-store transactions this afternoon.

Bank of Ireland has issued a statement stating the the issue has been resolved.

“We’re confirming all of our Visa debit cards are now working normally for all point of sale chip and pin transactions and for withdrawals at all ATMs. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused,” read the statement.

The problems first presented themselves at around 11am on Thursday. The bank said as many as 15 per cent of all transactions both in-store and at ATMs had failed over the course of a number of hours.
