An Uzi submachine gun with a silencer attached has been seized by gardaí during a search operation in the Greenhills, Tallaght, Dublin. The firearm was discovered when gardaí found and searched a stolen 4X4 vehicle during an opening on Wednesday afternoon.

Uzi submachine guns are Israeli-designed and were previously issued to armed members of An Garda Siochana before they were withdrawn from service in 2012.

The Garda said that while no arrests have been made in relation to Wednesday’s find, the stolen vehicle that was discovered is undergoing technical examination, which may yield forensic evidence that would link the gun to suspects.

As well as the Uzi submachine gun and silencer, a quantity of ammunition and a firearm magazine were also found during the search.
