A man in his 20s has been found dead in house in Lucan in West Dublin.

Gardaí and the emergency services were called to a property on Woodville Avenue in Lucan shortly before 3pm on Sunday after the body was discovered.

The remains were left in the house on Sunday evening and the scene has been sealed off and preserved for a forensic and technical examination.

It is understood the man was aged 22 and had been working as an apprentice plumber in Shannon from Monday to Friday.

It is believed his body was found by a relative in an upstairs bedroom and that he had sustained a wound to his chest.

Treated as suspicious

The death is being treated as suspicious. However, gardaí are awaiting the arrival of the State Pathologist on Monday morning to confirm the cause of death.

There have been reports that the man had been shot, but the Garda would not confirm this.

Neighbours living on the street expressed shock at the incident and described the area as a “quiet” and “safe” place to live. Mandy Carroll, who lives a few doors down from the house where the body was found, said her son used to play with the young man when they were both children.

“We’ve been living here for 20 years and his family have lived in that house all that time. He was the nicest chap and they’re a lovely family. It’s a really quiet and lovely area to live in, I’m totally shocked by the news.”

Shane Casey, who lives directly across from the house where the incident occurred, said he knew the man to see on the street but not personally.

Extremely isolated event

“We’ve lived here two years and we’ve never had any trouble or issues. It’s a bit of a shock but it’s an extremely isolated event, nothing like that happens here.”

A man who was out walking his dogs on Sunday evening but who preferred not to give his name described the area as “middle class” and “very sought after”. “I’m living here 10 years now and I’d take this route to walk my daughter to school every day. It’s a lucrative area, you can see there’s two cars in a lot of driveways. It would be a very sought-after area to live in.”

A Garda spokesman confirmed on Sunday evening that the Office of the State Pathologist had been notified and would attend the scene on Monday morning. Inquiries into the death are ongoing.
