Gardaí are investigating a road traffic collision in Dundalk that has left a young man in a "critical condition".

Emergency services were alerted that a man was found lying on the Newry Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, at about 11.35pm on Christmas night.

Gardaí believe he was cycling along the Newry Road when knocked down. He was moved from the scene in a serious condition and taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda.

Christmas Day incident

The man, who is aged in his late 20s, was later transferred to Beaumont Hospital where gardaí described his condition as “critical”.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward, or any road users or pedestrians who may have camera, or dash-cam footage, of the Newry Road between 11.15pm and 11.30pm on Saturday.
