Gardaí and customs officers have seized a consignment of MDMA worth an estimated €288,000, during an operation targeting organised crime groups in Dublin city.

The seizure was made on Thursday by Revenue customs officers, as part of a joint intelligence operation with the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, and the Dublin north central divisional drugs unit.

Approximately 4.8kgs of MDMA was seized, and gardaí arrested a 37-year-old man at the scene of the search.

The man is currently detained in Store Street Garda Station, under Section 2 of The Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

A spokeswoman for Revenue said the search was part of ongoing operations “targeting organised crime groups and the importation, sale and supply of illegal drugs”. A Garda spokesman said investigations were continuing.
