A large haul of cocaine, heroin and cigarettes has been seized at Dublin Port as it was being smuggled into the Republic.

The drugs and cigarettes, which were part of the same load, were still being examined late on Wednesday night. However, the parts of the load that had already been analysed were valued at around €10 million.

Informed sources said that figure was expected to rise, though the overall valuation would be influenced by the breakdown of the cocaine and heroin.

It is understood the drugs and cigarettes had arrived in the port in recent days being Revenue’s Customs officers moved in and seized them on Wednesday. A spokeswoman for Revenue confirmed the operation at the port was still underway late on Wednesday night.
