Audi Ireland is recalling 2,740 A4 models in Ireland as part of a worldwide safety measure relating to airbags, which may not inflate properly in the event of a crash.

The models affected are A4 saloon, Avant (estate) and AllRoad versions manufactured between November 2011 and mid-October this year. A software update is required to resolve the matter.

In a statement the firm said: “During in-house tests and simulations which are part of continuous product monitoring, it was discovered that in very rare instances, it is possible that the front airbags will not inflate correctly in the event of an accident. The rectification process will involve a software update in the airbag control unit. It is important to note that no cases have been reported by customers.”

Audi Ireland said it is currently contacting customers who purchased a model in this range during this period. Those affected are asked to make an appointment with an authorised Audi Dealer so that work can be performed promptly.
