Some dresses just capture the spirit of summer and Zara’s latest collection is a nod to bohemian style which never seems to go out of fashion. It’s another way of referencing the 1970s, a time when devil-may-care dressing with long skirts and floppy hats defined the look of the decade.
Dresses have always been Zara’s strong point and this season is no exception, with a wide offering of patchwork, tartan mixes, embroidery, embellishment, vintage florals and bold stripes.
This long dress, with flattering button down front and sleeves, mixes red and pink in a digestible way, souped up with a panel of sunny yellow print. Soft and romantic, it is suited to festivals or long summer days – whenever we get them - and is at its best over tanned skin.
The price at €49.95 is appealing though it lacks pockets – always a drawback. Fussier types might prefer to have the hem aligned rather than with its hankerchief points, but its breezy look, a mix of Valentino and Chloe for more affordable purses, speaks for itself.
Wear it with a black leather jacket, feathery earrings (hot pink Mignonne Gavigan €229 from Loulerie) and yellow suede pointed sandals (€89.99 from & Other Stories) – no other accessory needed.
