Forget sweet liebfraumilch, this riesling is the German wine to try

Wines for the Weekend: Plus, a rich and smooth red from a small region in Catalunya

Two discounted wines from SuperValu to try this weekend

Two wines on promotion from SuperValu this week. Both are imported directly by the supermarket and form part of their premium range. If you haven’t tried German riesling yet, then the Albert Glas is well worth a go. Fresh, fruity and dry, it is a world away from those sweetish liebfraumilch of yesteryear.

Priorat is a small region in Catalunya. A good hour’s drive from Barcelona, the vineyards are quite spectacular, clinging to steep terraces high up in the mountains; well worth a detour if you are visiting the region. The wine below is a blend of cariñena, garnacha and syrah.
