Aldi nails it with these two hard-to-beat southern hemisphere wines

An Australian sauvignon and South African shiraz for about €10

Something to go with herby fish or chicken, and something to pair with grilled red meat

Two wines from Aldi this week, both from the southern hemisphere. Margaret River is close to Perth on the west coast of Australia. The region has a deserved reputation for sauvignon blanc, often blended with a little semillon to add texture. The wine below includes 5 per cent semillon.

Stellenbosch is the premium wine-producing region of South Africa. Less than an hour’s drive from Cape Town, it is a popular tourist destination. The varied soils and micro-climates allow it to produce a range of very good red and white wines.

Bright and inviting with lifted aromas, leading on to some mouth-watering green fruits. A classic sauvignon blanc to enjoy as a sipping wine or with herby fish and chicken dishes.

Specially Selected Stellenbosch Shiraz 2024

Stellenbosch Shiraz
Stellenbosch Shiraz

Medium to full-bodied with meaty earthy dark fruits and ripe tannins. This would be best with grilled red meats. A South African braai or barbecue would be perfect.
