Specially Selected Mâcon-Villages 2023 and Specially Selected Fleurie 2023

Two wines from Aldi this week, from regions that overlap each other in wine terms. Mâcon is a large region to the west of the city of the same name. The white wines from there, which can offer good value for money, are made from the chardonnay grape. Mâcon-Villages on the label means that the wine comes from one or more of 27 villages considered superior to basic Mâcon, but not quite as good as those wines with the name of the village, such as Mâcon-Lugny.

Fleurie is one of the top-10 villages of the Beaujolais region, which neighbours Mâcon. Beaujolais is a juicy, fruity wine with very light tannins. The grape variety here is gamay.
