What’s on offer?

Ian Ussher, a former Euro-Toques Young Chef of the Year winner, parked his new Cluck Chicken food truck on the Walkinstown roundabout in October 2020. Now, two years later, he has a more permanent set-up with a food yard just a few metres from the original site. It’s all about fried buttermilk chicken, and there’s a rotating chicken burger special each month. Follow on Instagram to get the updates.

What did we order?

Order online for deliveries, or at the food yard for takeaway. We went for the Mother Clucker, a buttermilk fried chicken burger; the KFC, Korean fried chicken, and loaded kimchi cheese fries.

How was the service?

It’s a great set-up. There is a dedicated station for ordering at the food yard, you are given a buzzer that sounds when your order is ready, and you pick up your food from the food truck. If you fancy eating there, it’s a smart yard, with picnic tables, many of them in covered pods. The packaging is secure, and our food was piping hot when we got home, although it was a fairly quick drive.

Was the food nice?

The KFC is a huge burger that slaps you in the face with flavour. There’s tangy heat from the kimchi slaw, the miso mayo adds a savoury layer, and the pickled cucumber brings a touch of acidity. Crunchy shards of dark caramel add to the indulgence of this burger, it practically defeated me. The Mother Clucker in crispy, golden batter, is more manageable, with flavours from roast garlic mayo and melted cheese. The kimchi cheese fries, drenched in cheesy sauce with a liberal sprinkling of sliced chillies, are addictive. It’s a huge helping.
