The Cabinet has approved a new strategy to increase revenues from tourism by €5 billion per year for the next 10 years and to create 50,000 extra jobs in the sector in the same period.

Minister for Tourism Paschal Donohoe is expected to publish "People, Place and Policy – Growing Tourism to 2025" in the coming weeks.

Its three main aims are to increase revenue from overseas tourism, excluding air fares and ferry charges, by €5 billion per year by 2025, increase the number of people working in the sector from 200,000 to 250,000 and attract 10 million visitors to Ireland by 2025.

A new group to oversee a tourism action plan for the next three years is also to be established, and subsequent three year plans will also be put in place for the period up to 2025.
