Kidman stars in virtual reality trailer for Etihad

Etihad will released a "fully immersive" virtual reality film trailer starring its brand ambassador Nicole Kidman this week at Arabian Travel Market in Dubai. It is her debut in this new medium, and the scenes will take place on the newest A380 fitted with The Residence.

The VR medium will allow viewers to explore the aircraft with Kidman using Google Cardboard technology and Samsung Gear headsets.

It will be interesting to see how Emirates respond with their brand ambassador Jennifer Aniston.

China spends most on business travel

China’s business travel market has overtaken the United States as the number one business travel market in the world.

This is one of the key findings from the GBTA BTI™ Outlook - China 2016 H1, a report by the Global Business Travel Association, sponsored by Visa.

Despite a slowdown in business, China edged past the United States by a billion dollars, $291.2 billion spend compared to $290.2 billion by the US. The forecast for China this year is an increase of 10.1 per cent compared to 1.9 per cent in the US.

Staying in same hotel can make you sleep better

Staying in the same hotel or brand could be good for your health, according to Dr Yuka Sasaki of Brown University, Providence Rhode Island in the US.

People often experience difficulty sleeping in a strange bed. Known as the first-night effect, it can take longer to get to sleep and you sleep less.

Dr Sasaki describes the first-night effect as something of a neurological nightwatchman to wake you up when sleeping in an unfamiliar environment.

Avoid it by staying in the same hotel, in the same type of bed with familiar sounds and you will sleep better.

Dublin airport most popular for self-connecting

Dublin airport is the most popular airport for passengers self-connecting, according to a new study by Skyscanner. North America is a most popular connection, and Dublin airport is now fifth in Europe after LHR, CDG, FRA and AMS for connecting.

US preclearance is a factor in the connection decision by passengers. Popular UK routes for inbound passengers were LHR, MAN and EDI.

Last year more than one million passengers transited through the airport. Growth continues at Dublin with 5.5 million passengers in the first quarter, a 17 per cent increase on last year.
