Passenger numbers at Ryanair rose by 10 per cent to 10.4 million in August, versus the same month a year earlier according to new figures published on Wednesday.

The airline hit a new milestone in July when it carried more than 10 million passengers in a month for the first time.

Passenger numbers were unchanged compared to July but were up from 9.4 million for August 2014.

Ryanair’s annual traffic for the first eight months of the year rose by 15 per cent to 96.3 million.

Ryanair's chief marketing officer Kenny Jacobs said the increase was in part due to the airline's customer service programme, which is now in its second year, and strong forward bookings.
