Norwegian Air is hiring 40 pilots to fly from a new base it is planning to open in Dublin Airport later this year.
The airline, which launched services from Ireland to the north eastern US this summer, says that it plans to open a base in Dublin to support current routes and further international expansion.
“The base will initially include approximately 40 pilots but Norwegian is also exploring options for further pilot and cabin crew positions at the base next summer,” the carrier said on Tuesday.
Norwegian will begin recruiting pilots who hold Boeing 737 operational certificates with a roadshow for interested candidates at the Clayton Hotel in Dublin Airport. It plans further such events next month and in November.
Bjorn Erik Barman-Jenssen, chief executive of Norwegian Air Resources said that opening a new base in Dublin was a key step to growing its international operations.
“We have seen lots of interest in joining Norwegian so the new Dublin base will create some exciting opportunities to be part of a fast-growing airline,” he said.
Norwegian flies around 30 million passengers to 150 destinations every year. It has 130 aircraft with a further 200 on order.
The group established an Irish subsidiary, Norwegian Air International, to operate low-cost long-haul flights between Europe, North America and Asia.
The rate at which the group is expanding recently sparked questions about its sustainability, but Norwegian has said that it has several options available to fund its growth should it need them.
