Ryanair might be all grown up now and Aer Lingus is busy as a takeover target. But, like a pair of overgrown toddlers, both Irish airlines still can't resist sticking their tongues out at each other.
For months, Aer Lingus has been running ads along the bridge to what is known as the “100 gates” in Dublin Airport’s terminal one. You know the stretch – the long walk to what used to be called “pier D” to catch a Ryanair flight.
Aer Lingus doesn’t operate from this part of the airport, so it is an obvious attempt to appeal directly to Ryanair’s customers as they make their long walk to the plane.
Ryanair, obviously miffed at this incursion on to its turf by the enemy, has just taken out enormous ads on the landside lifts in terminal two.
Ryanair, of course, doesn’t even fly from the terminal, which is home to Aer Lingus.
But anything its rival can do, it clearly reckons it can do better.
