Traffic is moving again on the M50 northbound in West Dublin, following a five-vehicle crash earlier this afternoon. The crash led to the temporary closure of the four northbound lanes of the M50 from Junction 13 Sandyford.
At one stage, queues of traffic stretched back as far as Cherrywood, near Loughlinstown as emergency services worked to clear the vehicles from the motorway.
Dublin Fire Brigade posted a map of the crash location which is immediately south of Marlay Park between junctions 12 and 13. The brigade advised motorists of “severe delays on approach”.
Traffic also built up on alterative routes as motorists seek to divert before the crash.

In an update posted sthis evening Transport Infrastructure Ireland’s (TII’s) traffic control centre said that the northbound carriageway had been reopened and traffic was moving slowly towards the West-Link bridge.
However the motorway manager said there was still congestion between junction 16 Cherrywood and junction 6 Blanchardstown.
TII’s traffic control centre also said there was congestion southbound between junction 3 M1 interchange to junction 16 Cherrywood.
Transport Infrastructure Ireland also posted a picture of heavy traffic along a two lane slip road, parallel to the motorway, from Sandyford to the Dundrum junction.
Earlier An Garda Síochána said on Twitter that motorists were advised to avoid the area and take alternative routes as traffic is at a standstill.
