Kaleem Simon and Paul Sinnott swapped first goals of the season as bottom-of-the- table Longford Town's search for a first home win of the campaign continues.

Without a victory since the opening night at Wexford Youths, Tony Cousins' midlanders are now five points adrift at the foot of the table with a game more played.

Having failed to capitalise on their first-half dominance, Longford finally took a deserved lead eight minutes into the second.

Noel Haverty worked a one-two with Peter McGlynn on the right to deliver a precise cross for Simon to score with a sublime first time volley.

Galway responded to level on 67 minutes, captain Ryan Connolly pulling a free kick back for Sinnott to drill a shot to the net through a crowded penalty area.

Both keepers then excelled to prevent any further scoring. Coulter made fine reaction stops to twice deny Vinny Faherty while Conor Winn saved with his feet from Yann Mvita.

Longford might have won it with the last kick of the game, but substitute Lee Duffy’s shot was parried away by Winn.
