Argentine media reports Leinster attack coach set to move back to native country

Leinster backs coach Felipe Contepomi is set to take up a role on Michael Cheika's Argentina coaching ticket, according to reports in the country. It appears that former Leinster head coach Cheika has been appointed Argentina boss through to the 2023 World Cup.

The Australian previously worked as an assistant to the last Argentina head coach, Mario Ledesma.

Contepomi will assist Cheika with a view to succeeding him after the tournament in France next year, according to La Nacion, the Argentine newspaper. He has been with Leinster as a coach since 2018 after a stint as a player for the province betwen 2003-2009.

The outhalf was at the club when they secured their first Heineken Cup win in 2009 but memorably missed the final due to an injury, opening the door for Johnny Sexton to become first choice at the position.

Cheika was the coach of that side and now seems set to link up with his former player in a coaching capacity.
