Australia boss Michael Cheika faces a continued wait to discover if he faces punishment for comments made during the Wallabies’ 30-6 loss to England at Twickenham on Saturday.

Head coach Cheika was caught on camera sarcastically applauding decisions that went against Australia at the weekend, and saying “f****** cheats” when a possible try was ruled out.

On two occasions he walked down the steps from the coaches’ box to the touchline to remonstrate with officials and received abuse from supporters that he described as a “gobful” that was “not pleasant”, at one point resulting in a verbal exchange with a fan.

Autumn international disciplinary bosses launched an investigation on Monday, and on Tuesday evening confirmed that that would continue into Wednesday.

Incensed

England produced a late try flurry to power past Australia in London on Saturday, with Cheika incensed by a number of refereeing calls.

Cheika’s conduct eventually led to an investigation being launched, with those inquiries being confirmed on Monday.

“Following various media reports and referral from World Rugby, the disciplinary office for the autumn internationals is investigating comments and conduct attributed to the head coach of the Australian national team, Michael Cheika, during the match between England and Australia at Twickenham on Saturday,” read the autumn international disciplinary statement released on Monday.
