Tony Martin’s appeal against a €2,000 fine, and a 42-day ban for the horse he trains, Pyromaniac, picked up under ‘non-trier’ rules at Killarney on Tuesday, will be heard by the Turf Club’s Referrals Committee next week, with Thursday looking a likely date.
Co. Meath based Martin was penalised under Rule 212 in relation to using the racecourse as a training ground after Pyromaniac finished sixth of the nine runners in a Qualified Riders race. Jockey Patrick McGuigan was suspended for seven days by the racecourse stewards.
Pyromaniac, a winner at the 2014 Galway festival, is currently ruled out of running at Ballybrit towards the end of this month but that could change with a successful appeal and the Turf Club's chief executive Denis Egan confirmed: "The appeal will be heard next week."
This weekend's jumps action in Ireland is at Tipperary on Sunday where King Leon, a general 16-1 shot for the Galway Plate, tops the weights in the handicap chase.
Nina Carberry will fancy her chances on the English raider, Suitor in Saturday's Ladies Derby at the Curragh but she will also look forward to riding Black Ace in Sunday's bumper.
