It’s a new week for Team Ireland and the concluding week of the Tokyo Olympics, as some Irish athletes finally get their Games underway.
Ciara Mageean is the first up on Monday, as she lines out in the opening heat in the women’s 1,500m at 1.35am.
Mageean is followed by Sarah Healy - the 20-year-old lines up in the third 1,500m heat at 1.59am, the duo bidding for a place in Wednesday’s final.
Later on the track it’s the turn of Phil Healy in the 200m heats at 3.10am. She lines up in the sixth heat alongside Jamaica’s Elaine Thompson-Herah.
Thompson-Herah is the defending Olympic champion and heads into the race on the back of securing gold in the 100m on Saturday - a daunting but exciting opponent for 26-year-old Healy.
If Healy makes it out of her heat she will compete in one of Monday’s three semi-finals, which begin at 11.25am.
Away from the track, and Oliver Dingley gets his Games underway on Monday in the first round of the 3m springboard diving - he is one of 29 taking part in the preliminaries at 2am.
Elsewhere, Sam Watson, Sarah Ennis and Austin O’Connor head into the final stage of eventing - show jumping. Ireland currently sit in eighth position overall with a score on 161.0, with the medals to be handed out at close of play.
