Born in Harrogate in North Yorkshire, Dingley qualified for Ireland via his Cork grandmother and in Rio 2016 became the first Irish Olympic diver since London 1948, making the final where he finished an excellent eighth place. A European finalist in 2016, 2018 and 2019, Dingley endured the long absence from competition during the pandemic before sealing his second Olympic berth at the Diving World Cup in Tokyo in early May. He is coached by Damian Ball, Swim Ireland's national diving coach.
