The drive for five is alive – that was the big news from day nine in Calgary, Canada after four-time defending champion Paul Brady demolished Team Ireland captain Robbie McCarthy 21-12, 21-7 in the first of yesterday's semi-final.

And, for the first time since 2006, the Open Singles will be an all-Irish final after 21-year-old Cork sensation Killian Carroll withstood a second-game surge from former Clare underage hurler Diarmaid Nash to book his place in his first final.

The powerful Brady (35) starts as favourite today (6pm Irish time) but Carroll has shown himself to be a player of real talent over the past week. Antrim's Aisling Reilly was on course to meet Cathriona Casey of Cork in the Women's Open final. They served off last night against Martina McMahon (Limerick) and Ciana Ní Churáoinn respectively.
