Five Leinster sides booked their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Irish Senior Cup on Saturday as results went mostly to the form guide.

Glenanne prevailed in extra time after an intense battle with UCC at the Mardyke in the most hotly constested tie.

Shrew Power’s early corner rebound was cancelled out by Rowland Rixon-Fuller in the first 20 minutes but no further goals accrued in normal time.

With a penalty shoot-out looming, Mick McGuinness popped up with a silver goal to win it 2-1 for the Tallaght side who now go on to meet Railway Union.

They were pushed all the way by Mossley but Rob Abbott’s third goal of the day won the tie with just two minutes to go, 4-3.

In a helter-skelter start, Peter English and Abbott goals were counteracted by a Colin McClean effort inside eight minutes. Abbott nabbed his second 15 minutes in, a 3-1 lead they held until 19 minutes from time.

But Jordan Robinson’s penalty stroke was quickly followed by McClean’s second of the game to level things up at 3-3 before Abbott won the game.

UCD threatened a big shock in the first half against reigning champions Three Rock Rovers. Former Rover Shane Madeley had the students 2-0 up before Rovers bounced back with six goals without reply, taking the laurels 6-2 with Jonny Bruton bringing his tally to four goals in two games.

At Deramore Park, Monkstown were handy 5-0 winners over Belfast Harlequins with Richard Sykes taking out his frustrations with a quartet of set piece goals.

Pembroke’s hoodoo over Instonians continued as Nick Burns’ hat trick saw the Dublin side ease to a 6-1 victory.

Cork C of I are the last Munster side left in the competition as they saw off an understrength Rathgar 1-0, Jack O’Mahony netting with 15 minutes to go.

CI will next face either Lisnagarvey or Corinthian whose last 16 tie will be played on November 15.

Banbridge will enjoy home comforts once again in the quarter-finals against Three Rock after they dismissed Cookstown 3-0.
