Jose Aldo expected to withdraw from Conor McGregor fight with rib injury

Aldo is awaiting an update this evening on what’s thought to be a rib fracture

Conor McGregor's highly anticipated UFC featherweight title fight against champion Jose Aldo looks likely to be cancelled after the Brazilian fighter suffered a rib injury in training.

Aldo is expected to receive a medical update on Wednesday evening which is likely to confirm that the rib is fractured and therefore mean that he will have to withdraw from the fight scheduled for the MGM Grand, Las Vegas on July 11th.

Aldo’s camp have already said that a fractured rib would see him out until October.

While the fight will most likely be rescheduled there are a number of alternative opponents for McGregor.

Both Frankie Edgar and Joseph Duffy, the last man to beat McGregor five years ago, have taken to Twitter to confirm their interest in stepping in and taking McGregor on.

McGregor himself seems positive enough that the fight will go ahead however. He tweeted this morning saying: “Just know that it is business as usual up here at the top. See you all on July 11th.”
