John Jermyn's late winner handed Cork C of I one of their best results in the Irish Senior Cup in the last decade as they stunned Ulster champions Lisnagarvey 4-3 in Hillsborough in their

quarter-final date.

The Garryduff side were rank outsiders for the tie after three chastening defeats in the Irish Hockey League before Christmas. But they raced into a 2-0 lead and were 3-2 up at half-time by virtue of Alec Moffett's pair and one goal from Philip Brownlow.

Timmy Cockram tied things up but Jermyn – Ireland's all-time international top goalscorer – sealed the win in the closing 10 minutes.

They complete the semi-final line-up with Banbridge, Railway Union and Pembroke in March in Belfield.

In the Leinster League, meanwhile, Jonny McCormack struck two superb goals in the final quarter to hand a young Three Rock Rovers side – they had seven teenagers in their panel – a 3-2 win over Pembroke.

It lifts them to second in the table and strengthens their bid for a place in the expanded Irish Hockey League.

Jonny Bruton and Ronan Flannery exchanged goals in the first five minutes before Harry Spain whipped home a drag-flick to give Pembroke a 2-1 lead.

McCormack, though, levelled with a stunning reverse-stick strike before slotting home a low effort from close range to seal the win.

Monkstown moved an extra point clear at the top thanks to their 7-0 win over Avoca.

James Dick’s late winner helped Railway Union pip Glenanne 3-2. Railway are now tied fifth with Corinthian and YMCA who were 3-0 and 4-1 winners over UCD and Rathgar respectively.
