Ireland claimed the Dubai Tri-Series title on Monday after their final encounter with Scotland was a complete washout, the first no result in a One-Day International game held in the United Arab Emirates.

The desert rains relented in the afternoon with the umpires passing the ground fit for a 20-over clash, but just before Ireland took to the field after winning the toss and putting the Scots in to bat, back came to rain to end any hopes of play.

Ireland coach Phil Simmons had made four changes from the side that lost to Afghanistan on Saturday, with Stuart Thompson, Andrew McBrine, Peter Chase and Max Sorensen coming into the XI for Alex Cusack, George Dockrell, Craig Young and John Mooney.

Ireland’s opening two wins over Afghanistan and Scotland and the point from the no result proved enough to claim the title, with the squad returning to Ireland ahead of their departure to Australia for the Word Cup.
