Irish runner improves on heat time at World Championships

Ireland's Brian Gregan finished seventh in the first semi-final of the 400 metres at the World Athletics Championships in Moscow today.

The 23-year-old Dubliner ran a time of 45.98 in the one-lap race, beating his qualifying time of 46.04 from the heats.

Saudi Arabia's Yousef Ahmed Masrahi took the first of the three semi-finals in a time of 44.61, with America's Tony McQuay taking the second automatic spot in the final.
