Bryan finishes seventh in the 10km open water swim at World University Games

Ennis athlete led with 1,500 metres to go

Open water swimmer Chris Bryan finished seventh at the World University Games 10km in Kazan, Russia, in one hour, 57 minutes and two seconds. Bryan led with 1,500 metres to go, but the 24-year-old faded as Matteo Fulan of Italy took gold in 1:56.12.

At the European Youth Olympic Festival in Utrecht, Holland, Ards' James Brown finished in 25.99 in the 50m freestyle. Niamh Kilgallen was 15th in the 200m breaststroke heats (2:44.53) with Benjamin Doyle 17th (2:10.88) in the 200m backstroke. Morgan Berryman was 19th (4:11.30) in the freestyle 400m while Rachel Bethel swam 9:19.06 in the 800m freestyle.
