Luke List took a step towards winning his first PGA Tour title with a superb eight-under 63 that gave him a one-shot lead midway through the John Deere Classic.

The American followed his opening 66 at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Illinois, with an impressive bogey-free round featuring seven birdies in an eight-hole stretch to be at 13-under heading into the weekend.

A shot back was Colombian Sebastian Munoz, who started the day as co-leader before recording four birdies and 14 pars en route to a 67.

Munoz’s fellow first-round leader Chesson Hadley of the US headed a group of seven players in third at 11-under including 2016 winner Ryan Moore.

Ireland’s Séamus Power was six strokes off the lead at seven-under after carding a 67 with six birdies and a trio of bogeys, while Martin Laird of Scotland was another stroke back followed by Englishman Tom Lewis at five-under.

Meanwhile Leona Maguire sits in a share of 22nd place in the Marathon Classic, after she carded a second round of 68 in Ohio.

That followed her opening effort of 69 to leave her on five under par for the tournament - seven shots adrift of Japan’s Naza Hataoka, who leads the field by two.
