East of Ireland champion Paul Dunne and Castlerock's Aaron Kearney are both through to the last 32 at the British Amateur Championship at Royal Cinque Ports but Irish Close champion Cormac Sharvin is one of a number of Irish golfers to fall in today's second round at the Kent links.

Greystones’ Dunne enjoyed a 2 and 1 victory over Ashton Turner of Kenwick Park and will now go on to face Bamburgh Castle’s Garrick Porteous after he beat Ardglass’ Sharvin 3 and 2. Sharvin beat Dunne in the final of the Irish Close at Connemara Golf Club recently.

Kearney had a comfortable 4 and 2 success over Henry James of Kidderminster and meets Jimmy Mullen of Royal North Devon in Thursday’s third round.

Rathsallagh's Jack Hume lost a close encounter with Hawkstone Park's Ashley Chester, going down 2 and 1, while Richard Bridges of Stackstown was on the wrong end of a 4 and 3 defeat to Italy's Renato Paratore.
