Limerick hurler Richie McCarthy and Kerry footballer James O'Donoghue will be presented with provincial player of the year awards at Saturday's Bórd Gáis Energy Munster GAA awards. Clare's David Fitzgerald won the manager of the year award after leading the county to this year's All-Ireland hurling title.
It completes a productive end of year for McCarthy and O’Donoghue, who each won their first All Star awards last month. McCarthy was man of the match for Limerick in their defeat of defending champions Tipperary in June’s Munster semi-final whereas O’Donoghue was devastating in Kerry’s two big performances, against Cork in the Munster final and Dublin in the All-Ireland semi-final, in which he scored 2-3.
