It didn't last long but it seems Séamus Plunkett's decision to walk away from the Laois hurlers has had the desired effect, with the county announcing his decision to return five days later.

Plunkett stepped down from his role as Laois hurling manager last Thursday amid rumours that members of his panel had lined out for their club against his wishes. Although the county board cited “personal reasons” for the decision.

The news had come at the worst possible time, with Laois hosting Offaly in the Leinster quarter final this coming Sunday in Plunkett’s native Portlaoise.

Despite a surprise loss to Antrim, Laois had bounced back to qualify as winners of the Leinster round robin group after victories over Carlow and Westmeath.

After talks between the relevant parties Plunkett has now been convinced to resume the good development work he has so far overseen in the county. In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon Laois GAA said they “wish to announce that following successful discussions, the recent issues concerning Laois Senior Hurling have been resolved, for present.

“The team and management are now finalising preparations for Leinster SHC game on Sunday next. The issues in dispute will be addressed at a later date.”
