Tom Parsons has been announced as the new CEO of the Gaelic Players Association. The former Mayo centrefielder has been a member of the GPA executive (NEC) since 2017. He is also a former secretary of the organisation and has served as chair of the NEC and more recently co-chair with Maria Kinsella after the merger with the WGPA.
Parsons, who has been an All-Ireland finalist with Mayo and recovered from a horrific injury in 2018, is a chartered engineer and moves into the position after working with Jacobs (the multi-national engineering and solutions company). He will succeed Paul Flynn.
Ciarán Barr will continue as acting CEO until Parsons takes over and will then resume his responsibilities as the GPA Head of Finances and Operations.
“I am absolutely delighted and honoured to be appointed as the CEO of the GPA,” said Parsons. “I truly believe in the great work of the association and, from personal experience, the GPA has supported me in my sporting, personal and professional life since my debut with Mayo in 2008.
“A huge motivation for me was the decision by players to merge the GPA and WGPA in December of 2020. I feel this truly represents the leadership of our male and female intercounty players and I’m committed to serve the voice of all our players to the best of my ability. I look forward to taking up the position later in the summer.”
