Mayo have decided to go with joint managers to replace James Horan with Noel Connolly and Pat Holmes having been put forward by the interview committee to the executive of the County Board.
The duo led Mayo to the 2006 under-21 football title back in 2006 and saw off the strong application of St Brigid’s manager Kevin McStay to land the position.
A statment on the Mayo GAA website confirmed the decision and thanked McStay “for his time in the process”.
The statement also noted: “Mr McStay, while very disappointed, stated he was happy with the board’s decision and wished Noel Connolly and Pat Holmes the very best with their future endeavours”.
Horan stood down from the position after Mayo’s defeat to Kerry in the All-Ireland semi-final, citing family and business committments for his decision.
