Galway GAA have announced that Cian O’Neill has been appointed coach to the county footballers. The well-travelled Kildare man has an impressive CV and this is his sixth intercounty appointment. Up until this season, he had been coach in Ronan McCarthy’s Cork management, which ran its course earlier this year.
O’Neill has been part of All-Ireland winning managements, beginning with Tipperary hurlers in 2010, and then Kerry footballers in 2014. He also had a spell with Mayo during James Horan’s first spell as manager and managed his own county Kildare between 2015 and ‘19.
A statement released by the county said: “Galway GAA is delighted to announce the appointment of Cian O’Neill to the Galway senior football backroom team.
“The Kildare man will join Pádraic Joyce next season as a coach.”
