GAA disciplinary officials are awaiting the referee’s report to see if Seamus Flanagan faces retrospective punishment following an off-the-ball incident in the second half of Limerick’s league clash with Cork at Páirc Uí Chaoimh on Saturday.
However, if there is no mention of the incident involving Flanagan and Cork defender Niall O’Leary in Seán Stack’s report then the Limerick forward could avoid a ban.
The incident was highlighted during RTÉ’s League Sunday programme on Sunday night, during which footage recorded from a spectator in the stands was used to show where Flanagan appeared to jab O’Leary with his hurl. No action was taken by Stack at the time.
Video evidence has been used by the Central Competitions Control Committee to issue retrospective bans in the past, but it remains to be seen whether officials are comfortable with issuing proposed punishments based on what is effectively fan footage.

Speaking on League Sunday, former Kilkenny hurler Jackie Tyrell said: “Seamus Flanagan is a very talented hurler but he shouldn’t be doing that on the field.
“He needs to be very, very careful and he could land himself in hot water over that.”
