George Lawlor is 55 years old and from Wexford Town. His wife is Yvonne, and they have three daughters.
He has been a councillor for 20 years and is into his fifth term as Wexford Lord Mayor.
He first ran in the by-election in 2019 and got 8,000 first preference votes and came in second place in advance of Verona Murphy. Malcom Byrne won that seat that year but lost it in February the following year.
This is his first time running for the General elections, where his predecessor Brendan Howlin was a politician for 40 years.
George ran a printing company in Wexford town for 25 years and sold it several years ago to focus on his political life.
His daughters – who live in Dubai, Syndey and Edinburgh – all returned home to support their father during this election.
