Donald Trump’s flying visit this week to his golf resort in Co Clare looked set to be a sleepy affair, a personal trip with his son Eric to one of his businesses with no official appointments or press events.
Reporters – including Jack Horgan-Jones for The Irish Times – took their chances when they could, asking questions that ranged from the tax regime for US multinationals in Ireland to the civil case underway in Manhattan where writer E Jean Carroll is alleging she was raped by Trump.
On day one, Trump was diplomatic and calm, but on Thursday morning on a blustery first tee, he let rip, including vowing to “confront” his rape accuser, something that will likely come as news to his New York lawyer who has said the former president will not be in court.
