Since news broke last Thursday of secret payments to star presenter Ryan Tubridy there have been more questions than answers.
Slowly – very slowly – answers are emerging. Later today the board of RTÉ, which has so far proved itself to be poor at managing this unprecedented crisis, will issue a statement “setting out its understanding of the circumstances surrounding the misstating of Ryan Tubridy’s earnings across the 2020-2022″. It will also reveal some of the findings of the Grant Thornton audit that highlighted the payments.
On Wednesday RTÉ executives will face the first of two Oireachtas committees investigating the scandal, when they appear at the Arts and Media Committee followed by the Public Accounts Committee on Thursday.
On today’s In the News podcast, political reporter Jack Horgan-Jones discusses how this debacle unfolded, the damage it has already done and what happens next.
