The fine art of repairing a hurl

Sir, – I enjoyed Marie Daly's Irishwoman's Diary on her husband's caring repair of broken and damaged hurleys (August 22nd).

I was reminded of watching, as a very young boy, a neighbour who kept the boss of his favourite hurls in a bucket of oil in the shed at the end of his garden. This was in the early 1950s and long before DJ or King Henry came on the scene. He was none other than Jim Langton, one of the greatest Kilkenny hurlers of all time. – Yours, etc,
