Sir, – Rather than spending energy dealing with a nuisance issue of pedestrians on smartphones, would it not be wiser and more effective to deal with the widespread problem of motorists using their phones while driving?
Whether in slow-moving traffic or on a 120km/h motorway, every day I see drivers strangely enraptured by their laps, with one hand out of sight. Some are more blatant of course. Some 84 per cent of drivers in 2017 admitted to using their phones while driving. This is a practice that must be stamped out quickly, meaning drivers would then be able to watch out for the alleged plague of walking smartphone zombies. – Yours, etc,
